Jakarta:President Ilham Aliyev has emphasized Azerbaijan's growing importance as a key transport hub in the region, highlighting the country's role in facilitating reliable transit along the North-South and East-West international corridors.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev made these remarks during a limited-format meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.

He noted that in the first half of 2026, transit cargo through Azerbaijan increased by 10 percent, reaching nearly 8 million tons. He also outlined a medium-term goal of increasing cargo transportation along the East-West and North-South routes to 15 million tons in each direction.
