Baku: Azerbaijan's geographical position between Central Asia, the Caspian region, Trkiye, and Europe creates an opportunity to connect renewable energy resources, markets, and infrastructure across the broader region, according to Javid Abdullayev, Chairman of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy. He made these remarks during a panel session titled 'Developing the Green Energy Industry through Innovation, Digital Technologies and Regional Cooperation' at the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Abdullayev emphasized that Azerbaijan is not limited to producing green electricity within the country. 'Together with our regional partners, we are working on creating green energy corridors that will enable the transmission of renewable energy across the region,' he stated. One of the key initiatives is the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor, established through an agreement signed in December 2022 between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary on strategic partnership in the development and transmission of green energy.
Simultaneously, efforts are underway to expand green energy connections to Eastern Europe via the Caspian Sea. Within the framework of COP29, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on strategic partnership in the development and transmission of green energy, laying the foundation for the Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor. This corridor holds strategic significance by linking Central Asia's vast renewable energy potential with Azerbaijan and through Azerbaijan to broader regional and European markets.
Additionally, Azerbaijan is working on developing energy connections towards Trkiye. The Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan-Trkiye energy interconnector aims to integrate the energy infrastructure of Azerbaijan and Trkiye and create opportunities for the export of renewable electricity to Nakhchivan. Another important initiative is the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Trkiye-Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor. Under this framework, the energy ministries of the four countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in global electricity transmission and trade.
These initiatives collectively demonstrate a broader vision, where these corridors are seen as part of a larger regional green energy network. Together, they can connect Central Asia, Azerbaijan, Trkiye, and Europe, facilitating the transmission of renewable energy across the region.
