Baku: A court hearing was held on the cassation appeal against the verdict issued against Ivan Nikolayevich Svetlichniy, who was exposed and arrested in a criminal case investigated by the State Security Service (SSS), APA reports. At today's hearing held at the Supreme Court under the chairmanship of Judge Teyyub Mukhtarov, the court announced its decision.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the ruling upheld the verdict against Svetlichniy. It should be recalled that Ivan Svetlichniy was sentenced to 16 years and one month in prison by the Baku Court on Grave Crimes. The Baku Court of Appeal also upheld the verdict.
It should be noted that Ivan Nikolayevich Svetlichniy was charged under Article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. An Azerbaijani citizen, Ivan Svetlichniy was found guilty of high treason by deliberately committing espionage to the detriment of the state security, sovereignty, and defense capability of the Republic of Azerbaijan and by carrying out assignments from foreign intelligence services.
