AzInTelecom Blocks Over 73,000 Cloned IMEI Codes in Azerbaijan

Baku: 'AzInTelecom' LLC, a subsidiary of AZCON Holding, is intensifying its efforts to curb the registration of mobile devices in Azerbaijan using fraudulent IMEI codes. As part of this initiative, the company has successfully assigned 'clone' status and blocked 73,056 copied IMEI codes.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, investigations revealed that there were 1,574,050 attempts to connect to Azerbaijan's mobile network using cloned IMEI codes. All these attempts were detected and prevented by the Mobile Device Registration System (MCQS) operated by AzInTelecom.

Under the 'Rules for the Registration of Mobile Devices,' sanctioned by a decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, it is mandatory for the IMEI codes of mobile devices brought from abroad to be registered within 30 days to ensure their operation on the country's telecommunications network. This registration process can be completed online via the mygov portal or in person at post offices.

The initiative to block the registration of mobile devices with cloned IMEI codes is aimed at safeguarding subscribers' rights and promoting transparency in the mobile communications sector. 'AzInTelecom' LLC advises citizens to verify the IMEI number on the device's box through the mygov portal before purchasing a mobile phone and to prioritize buying from authorized retailers.
