Baku and Belgrade will take steps to organize the supply of electricity to Serbia from 2023

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said that from 2023 steps will be taken to export electricity to Serbia.

 

“I am sure that next year practical steps will be taken to export Azerbaijani electricity to Serbia,” Aliyev said in Baku on Wednesday, making a statement to the press following talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

 

Aliyev stressed that the energy sector is part of the cooperation between Baku and Belgrade.

 

“Recently, this area has become more important. Azerbaijan’s natural resources are already being exported in various directions, including to the European continent, including to the countries neighboring Serbia. There are opportunities for cooperation on both natural gas and electricity, relevant negotiations have been held,” Aliyev said.

 

He recalled that on December 17, an agreement was signed on the supply of electricity from Azerbaijan to Europe.

 

“The cable that will be laid along the bottom of the Black Sea will confirm that Azerbaijan is an important supplier for Europe in the field of electricity as well. All this opens new opportunities, new horizons, and we will cooperate in this area, of course, both in a bilateral format and in a multilateral format,” Aliyev stressed.
