Baku: The appeal filed against the verdict in the case of Shohrat Mammadov, accused of treason for carrying out assignments for foreign special services, has been reviewed. A decision was issued at a hearing at the Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Ramin Garagurbanli. According to the decision, the appeal was not upheld, and the verdict of the lower court was left unchanged.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Baku Military Court had previously sentenced Shohrat Mammadov to 16 years in prison. Mammadov was detained as a result of an operation conducted by the State Security Service in March this year. He was charged under Article 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, accused of deliberately committing treason in the form of espionage to the detriment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, state security, and defense capability of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
