Baku: Fatimayi Zahra Seyfiyeva, a graduate of the Baku Engineering University (BEU), has become a winner of the "State Program for Youth Education at Prestigious Higher Education Institutions of Foreign Countries for 2022-2028" for the 2026-2027 academic year. She will pursue doctoral studies in "Bioanalytical Chemistry" at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Fatimayi-Zahra Seyfiyeva studied chemistry in English at BEU from 2018 to 2023. Having successfully graduated from the university, she was admitted to master's programs at seven prestigious universities around the world. She pursued her master's studies at the University of Edinburgh within the framework of the State Program and is currently completing her studies.
Alongside her master's studies, she is taking part in a three-month research program at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair (IRR) at the University of Edinburgh. There, she conducts research on the development of nanoelectrode-based biosensors for the early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. Her main goal during her doctoral studies is to further develop the research she conducted at the master's level on the design and surface modification of nanoelectrodes.
The BEU graduate stated that her goal is to develop nanoelectrode-based biosensor platforms that can be used in the early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and to study their application in living cells. She also highlighted the potential expansion of this technology to research related to other diseases, including cancer, and the future development of wearable biosensors with her academic supervisor.
Fatimayi Zahra Seyfiyeva expressed her desire to bring the knowledge and experience she gains abroad back to Azerbaijan and contribute to the field's development in the country. She acknowledged Baku Engineering University's significant role in her academic journey and expressed her ambition to participate in research and teaching activities at the university. She aims to share her knowledge with young people interested in this field and collaborate on projects with university teachers and other researchers to advance the field of biosensors in Azerbaijan.
