Baku: The 4th meeting of the Joint Commission on economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq was held in Baku, as disclosed by the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport (MDDT) to APA-Economics.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a delegation led by Hayam Al-Yasiri, the co-chair of the Joint Commission from the Iraqi side and Iraq’s Minister of Communications, arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the meeting. Rashad Nabiyev, the co-chair from the Azerbaijani side and Minister of Digital Development and Transport, welcomed the Iraqi delegation. Nabiyev highlighted that Azerbaijan and Iraq, two countries with strong historical, religious, and cultural connections, possess significant potential to expand cooperation in multiple sectors.
Nabiyev provided insights into Azerbaijan’s macroeconomic indicators from the previous year and the trade volume between the countries. He emphasized the effectiveness of the Joint Commission as a platform for enhancing collaboration. Additionally, discussions were held about the potential role of the Azerbaijan-Iraq Business Council in boosting trade relations.
Nabiyev also addressed the peacebuilding efforts in the region and the ongoing reconstruction work in Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation. These areas are being redeveloped under the State Program on the Great Return and have been designated as a ‘green energy’ zone.
Throughout the meeting, participants engaged in discussions about cooperation opportunities in sectors including economy, industry, trade, mutual investments, oil and gas, digital development, science and education, culture, tourism, youth, and sports. The meeting concluded with the signing of a Protocol on the 4th meeting of the Joint Commission, reinforcing the commitment to bilateral cooperation.
For context, the Joint Commission was established based on the ‘Agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq,’ signed on November 10, 2010, in Baku.
