Baku Hosts Event on Innovations in Railroad Technology, Fostering German-Azerbaijani Partnerships


BAKU: An information event titled “Innovations in Railroad Technology in Azerbaijan: Partnerships and Opportunities for German Companies” has taken place in Baku, as reported by Trend News Agency. Organized by the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan), the event is part of a business trip for a delegation of German entrepreneurs from October 21-25. The initiative aims to provide German companies with insights into the Azerbaijani railway technology market, standards, and potential projects.

According to Trend News Agency, the event offers participants opportunities to establish direct business connections with Azerbaijani companies and specialists in the railway industry. Representatives from Elektro Thermit GmbH and Co KG, HÜBNER GmbH and Co. KG, KATHREIN Solutions GmbH, Schaltbau GmbH, Vagoteq GmbH, and WAGNER Rail GmbH are part of the delegation. Orkhan Ahmadzade, Acting Head of the Research and Development Center at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, emphasized the company’s focus on a decarboni
zation strategy that includes investing in clean technologies, renewable energy, and modernizing energy-efficient infrastructure.

Ahmadzade highlighted plans to expand the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for infrastructure monitoring, maintenance prediction, train schedule management, and cargo handling optimization. He noted that training programs for railway staff are essential to prepare the team for advanced systems. Ahmadzade also discussed the implementation of a situation center to monitor and manage railway operations.

Heiko Schwarz, Deputy Head of the Business Mission at the German Embassy in Baku, stressed the potential of the Middle Corridor to become an environmentally friendly transport route with zero emissions. Schwarz noted the significant role of Azerbaijan as a key transport hub and its efforts to transform the Middle Corridor into a green route. The corridor connects China and European Union countries through Central Asia, the Caucasus, Trkiye, and Eastern Europe.

Anar Hasanov, Chair
man of the Board of AHK Azerbaijan, elaborated on Azerbaijan’s goal to increase cargo transportation to 30 million tons per year by 2030. He noted that railway transport’s share in Azerbaijan’s GDP has increased from 5.4 percent to seven percent this year. Hasanov emphasized the importance of railways as an environmentally friendly transport mode, highlighting Azerbaijan’s strategic location as a key hub on global transport corridors.
