Baku hosts fifth meeting of Azerbaijan-Egypt Joint Intergovernmental Commission

The fifth meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Arab Republic of Egypt has been held in Baku.

A delegation headed by Egyptian Co-Chairman of the Joint Commission, Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat arrived in Baku to participate in the meeting.

Co-Chairman of the commission from the Azerbaijani side, Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev said that Azerbaijan and Egypt are friendly countries with high economic and cultural relations. He noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Egypt.

Minister Rashad Nabiyev informed the Egyptian delegation of the restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from the Armenian occupation as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War. He stressed that the opening of communications and the restoration of economic relations after the war, especially the implementation of Zangezur corridor will contribute to stability and development in the region and further enhance its transit potential.

Rashad Nabiyev then brought to the attention of the participants the country’s macroeconomic indicators over the past year, as well as the work done and planned in the fields of transport and digital transformation in Azerbaijan.

The meeting discussed possibilities for cooperation in the areas of trade, industry, mutual investments, education, culture and tourism.

Following the results of the meeting, the protocol of the fifth meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Arab Republic of Egypt and the documents below were signed:

– Memorandum of Understanding between the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Micro, Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Arab Republic of Egypt;

– Memorandum of Understanding between the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AZPROMO) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Arab Republic of Egypt on the establishment of the Azerbaijan-Egypt Business Council;

– Memorandum of Understanding between the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AZPROMO) and the Association of Egyptian Businessmen;

– Memorandum of Understanding between Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Port of Alexandria of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Joint Commission was established in accordance with the Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, signed in Cairo on April 7, 1994.
