Baku: An international conference titled 'Enhancing Cooperation and Advancing Modern Approaches in Addressing the Issue of Missing Persons' was held at Gulustan Palace in Baku on June 30. The conference was organized by Azerbaijan's State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons, in partnership with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), and was moderated by Gazanfar Ahmadov, Secretary of the State Commission.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the conference commenced with the performance of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan and a moment of silence to honor the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation's independence and territorial integrity. Sharafat Hasanov, Deputy Chief of the State Security Service, addressed the gathering, noting that the collaboration between ICMP and the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons began before the Second Garabagh War and has since evolved into a cooperative relationship.
The event included a presentation detailing the activities of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons. Kathryne Bomberger, Director-General of the ICMP, emphasized the support provided to Azerbaijan. Other speakers at the event included Arzu Naghiyev, Chairman of the Defense, Security and Combating Corruption Committee of the Milli Majlis; Elnur Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and a member of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons; and Zahid Oruj, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis.
