Baku Hosts International Forum on Climate Education in Higher Education Agenda


BAKU – An international forum on “Prioritizing Climate Education on the Global Higher Education Agenda” took place on September 11-12, hosted by Azerbaijan’s State Oil and Industry University and Sumgayit State University. The event, organized by the State Agency for Science and Higher Education in cooperation with the Times Higher Education International Rating Agency, gathered representatives from 26 countries.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the forum aimed to increase the role of higher education institutions in supporting the 13th Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations. It encouraged collaboration between universities and other stakeholders in addressing climate change while promoting climate-related scientific research.



Science and Education Minister Emin Amrullayev, who delivered the forum’s opening speech, highlighted the significance of Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions in elevating the global conversation on climate change and enhancing the competitiveness of universities in preparation for COP29. More than 200 participants, including global experts, attended the two-day event.
