Baku: A women’s cycling marathon took place in Baku on March 8 as part of “Sports Week,” organized by the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA).
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the event was staged along the Seaside Boulevard and attracted women from various sectors. Key figures such as Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, and Madat Guliyev, President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, were present at the event.
The main objectives of the marathon were to support amateur female cyclists in making productive use of their leisure time, to promote bicycles as an eco-friendly mode of transportation, and to inspire women to take up cycling. The participants in the event cycled a route starting from the Azneft Circle and concluding at the Marine Passenger Terminal.
