Baku Initiative Group Celebrates Three Years as a Decolonization Platform

Baku: The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) commemorates the third anniversary of its establishment, which took place on July 6, 2023, during an international conference titled 'Towards the Complete Elimination of Colonialism.' The conference was part of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement and marked the unanimous decision by participants to form the group.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, BIG has successfully brought the issues of colonialism and neocolonialism back into the global political discourse over the past three years. The organization has become a pivotal platform for advancing the decolonization process, organizing more than 40 international conferences, including 10 at various United Nations headquarters. Additionally, BIG has produced over 50 publications and signed 10 cooperation memorandums, establishing close cooperation with more than 25 countries and overseas territories.

One of BIG's significant accomplishments is the formation of the International Decolonization Front (FID) in Baku. BIG continues to expand its collaborations with international organizations, academic circles, and civil society institutions. It actively brings together representatives from indigenous communities, national liberation movements, parliament members, scholars, international experts, human rights advocates, and civil society institutions to further the cause of decolonization.
