Baku Port to Boost Fertilizer Cargo Handling Capacity

Baku:Baku Port is set to expand its fertilizer cargo handling capacity, aiming to enhance its role as a key logistics hub in the region.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the current container capacity at Baku Port is 150,000 TEU, which was previously 100,000 TEU before the first phase of expansion. Plans are underway to increase this capacity to 260,000 TEU.

Further developments include a second phase where the total cargo handling capacity is expected to reach 25 million tons, with container handling capacity anticipated to grow to 500,000 TEU.

Khudayar Hasanli, Adviser to Baku Port, mentioned that the port is strategically positioned on routes such as the China-Kazakhstan-Caspian Sea-Azerbaijan-West route and the Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan route. A significant portion of the cargo processed last year originated from Turkmenistan's ports, with a strong focus now on enhancing cargo transport from Central Asia, particularly fertilizers. The expansion aims to increase the volume of cargo from Central Asia and reinforce Baku Port's status as a major logistics hub.
