Baku: A scientific and practical conference on 'Preserving purity of Azerbaijani language in audiovisual media in the context of new challenges' was held at the Baku State University (BSU). Prior to the event, participants watched a video highlighting the instrumental role played by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in safeguarding the Azerbaijani language.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Elchin Babayev, Rector of the Baku State University (BSU), highlighted the historical significance of the conference in strengthening the legal status of the Azerbaijani language and ensuring its full use in all walks of society. He noted that National Leader Heydar Aliyev consistently emphasized the importance of preserving the purity of the Azerbaijani language and protecting it from foreign influences during his meetings with intellectuals and literary linguists.
Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, stressed the necessity for media professionals to adhere to linguistic precision and fluency, while upholding established literary norms. He stated that a key priority of the Media Development Agency is to ensure the correct use of the state language in the media and to enhance the professional expertise of journalists.
Fazil Novruzov, Head of Office of the Audiovisual Council, acknowledged the challenges posed by digitalization and evolving information landscapes but emphasized that these should not lead to the violation of language norms. He pointed out that adherence to the norms of the literary language is a matter of legal and public importance.
Rovshan Mammadov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting CJSC, remarked that media reflects society. He noted that the evolution of linguistic standards and societal trends are mirrored in the media, placing significant responsibility on media representatives regarding the adherence to language norms and protection of literary language.
Other speakers included Mirshahin Aghayev, General Director of the 'REAL Analysis and Information Center' LLC, Professor Nadir Mammadli, Director of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi, and Radik Ismayilov, Executive Director of the ARB 24 TV channel. The event featured discussions on the influence of audiovisual media on the linguistic environment, protection and promotion of language norms, and current trends in the field.
