Tbilisi: The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway project is nearing completion, with efforts currently focused on transitioning it into operation. Lasha Abashidze, the General Director of Georgian Railways JSC, announced the progress, highlighting the project's current status and significance for regional connectivity.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Abashidze explained that the necessary documentation for the commissioning and handover of the project is being prepared. This marks a crucial step towards the operational readiness of the BTK railway, which is expected to enhance transportation links between participating countries.

Abashidze emphasized the strategic importance of the BTK project for Georgia, stating, "This infrastructure project will directly connect us with Turkey and will allow attracting additional cargo flows in the direction of Georgia." He further mentioned ongoing collaborations with participating countries to boost the efficiency of the Middle Corridor and accelerate transportation speeds.

The director also reported a substantial increase in container transportation from China through the corridor, noting a rise of approximately 40-50%. This growth is anticipated to continue, further bolstering the project's impact on regional trade.

Additionally, Georgia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, recently indicated that the grand opening of the BTK project is imminent, underscoring the project's readiness to commence operations soon.
