On July 17-18, 2024, the first Congress, with the participation of leaders of more than 15 political parties and independence movements from Corsica, Melanesia, Polynesia, the Caribbean and Antilles, which suffered from French colonialism, organized by the People’s Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe and supported by the Baku Initiative Group, will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The idea of ??holding the congress belongs to the political parties and movements fighting for the independence of the French overseas territories.
3 organizations from the islands of Bonaire and Saint-Martin, which are Dutch colonies, will participate in the work of the Congress as guests of honor.
The Congress, which will last for two days, will provide an opportunity for the participating parties to discuss the ways of closer organization in the struggle for independence, as well as ways of coordinating result-oriented activities in order to defeat French colonialism by creating a single platform. Also, representa
tives of the colonies will discuss the most efficient practices and strategies in the struggle for self-determination.
The congress will contribute to increasing the awareness of the international community about the numerous crimes and illegal actions committed by the French government against the indigenous peoples who are the owners of these territories in the colonies, and to draw attention to the problem of colonialism, which is one of the plagues of the XXI century in general.
It should be noted that the Baku Initiative Group was established by the participants of the conference “Towards the Complete Elimination of Colonialism” on July 6, 2023 in Baku within the framework of the ministerial meeting of the Coordination Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement chaired by the Republic of Azerbaijan. It has been supporting the fair struggle for freedom of peoples suffering from colonialism for a year now. About 15 international conferences have already been organized by Baku Initiative Group in this regard. 4 o
f them were organized in the headquarters of the UN in New York, Geneva and Vienna, one in Istanbul, Trkiye and the others in Baku.
