Istanbul: The 5th conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network took place in Istanbul, Trkiye, as announced by the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis. The event witnessed participation from nearly 130 representatives, encompassing delegations from around 50 countries and international organizations, focusing on 'The role of parliaments in ensuring climate-resilient urbanization in the Non-Aligned Movement region.'

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the conference highlighted that since the last gathering in Tashkent in April 2025, the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement has expanded its activities and international influence. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasized the global housing crisis, stating that approximately 3 billion people live in inadequate conditions, with over 300 million facing homelessness. This situation hampers efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in developing countries.

The conference also discussed the 13th session of the World Urban Forum, slated as a midterm review for the New Urban Agenda, setting priorities until 2036. Remarks were delivered by prominent figures such as the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Trkiye Numan Kurtulmus, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Ackson, and Secretary General of the Union Martin Chungong, among others. They praised the institutional growth of the Parliamentary Network and its enhanced international standing under the chairmanship of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan.

The conference theme on climate-resilient urbanization was explored in-depth, with speakers offering their perspectives and proposals. The event concluded with the adoption of the Istanbul Declaration and decisions to establish the headquarters of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network in Baku, alongside granting observer status to the Arab Parliament in the network.
