Baku: The Earth will pass between the Sun and the Moon as the eclipse reaches its peak tonight, producing a lunar eclipse often called a “Blood Moon.”

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Queen’s University in Northern Ireland reported the event and said the phenomenon will be visible in parts of Europe, Australia and Africa.

The report said on Sunday night observers in Asia, as well as parts of Europe, Australia and Africa, will be able to observe the Blood Moon.

The report said in Asia, observers in India and China will have a view of the eclipse during the total phase. The event will also be visible in eastern Africa and western Australia.

The report said in Europe and Africa observers will see a partial eclipse as the Moon rises above the horizon in the evening. Observers in the Americas will not be able to view the eclipse.

The total lunar eclipse will last from 17:30 GMT to 18:52 GMT.

Ryan Milligan, an
astrophysicist at Queen’s University Belfast, said the Moon appears red during a lunar eclipse because only sunlight filtered and refracted through Earth’s atmosphere reaches the Moon.
