Baku: BP is advancing its plans to establish a 240-megawatt solar power plant in Jabrayil, as revealed by Gary Jones, BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Trkiye. Jones shared this development during his address at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the solar power plant project is being developed in collaboration with ‘Azerenerji’ and will function as a virtual power plant. The electricity generated from the project will have dual purposes: aiding in the regulation of the national grid and contributing to the decarbonization of BP’s Sangachal terminal. The initiative aims to halve emissions from the terminal. Moreover, the fuel gas conserved through this project will be transported to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor.

Gary Jones emphasized that this comprehensive strategy, which addresses both production and the energy transition, is a fundamental direction for BP’s forthcoming operations. The company intends to implement this model more widely across the region.
