BRICS Nations Urged to Resist Competitive Practices Masked as Climate Initiatives, Says Putin

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on the BRICS nations to resist efforts that use the climate agenda as a means to eliminate market competitors. He made these remarks during an expanded session of the BRICS summit, APA reports citing TASS.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Putin emphasized the need for the BRICS countries to collectively support balanced approaches in transitioning the global economy towards low-emission development models. He highlighted the importance of opposing any attempts that leverage the climate agenda to marginalize competitors, particularly in developing markets. The Russian leader pointed to the active involvement of the BRICS contact group on climate and sustainable development in addressing these issues.

Putin further expressed optimism about ongoing initiatives related to BRICS partnerships on carbon markets and the establishment of a climate research platform. These efforts, he noted, are considered promising as the group seeks to navigate the complexiti
es of sustainable development while maintaining fair market competition.
