Budapest: The 55th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) commenced in the Hungarian capital.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijan is represented at the two-day event by Chingiz Huseynzade, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, along with Anar Baghirov, Director of the International Relations Department, and Jeyhun Rahmanov, Director of the International Programs Department. The assembly is attended by notable figures such as Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee, and Spyros Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committees.
The Assembly's agenda includes reviewing the extensive work undertaken across the EOC over the past year. This ranges from support provided to National Olympic Committees throughout Europe to preparations for upcoming events like the 4th European Games scheduled to be held in Istanbul in 2027.
A highlight of the event is the announcement of the Piotr Nurowski Prize for the Best Young European Athlete. The winner will be revealed at a Gala Dinner on the evening of 12 June. The finalists for the 14th Summer Edition of the Prize have already been confirmed, with the decision made by the member National Olympic Committees earlier in the day, before the ceremony.
The second day of the Assembly will feature a video address from Glenn Micallef, the European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture, and Sport. There will also be an update from the EOC-EU Office in Brussels, alongside reports from various EOC Commissions. The EOC Olympic Laurels Awards are also set to be presented.
The Assembly will conclude with the announcement of the host city for the 56th EOC General Assembly, which will be Istanbul, Trkiye.
