Baku: An expanded meeting addressing the preparations for Azerbaijan's 2029 population census took place at the Cabinet of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Ali Asadov, as reported by the Cabinet of Ministers to APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting centered on executing the directives from President Ilham Aliyev's Decree dated July 7, 2026, titled "On conducting the population census in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2029," and focused on arranging and executing the census.
Prime Minister Ali Asadov, in his opening remarks, highlighted the significance of the population census as a vital tool for evaluating demographic trends and planning the nation's socio-economic progress. The upcoming 2029 census is expected to hold unique historical importance.
Prime Minister Asadov noted, "This is because, for the first time in the history of our independence, following the historic Victory achieved by the glorious Azerbaijan Army in the Patriotic War under the wise leadership of President, Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and the full restoration of our country's sovereignty, the nationwide population census will cover the entire sovereign territory of Azerbaijan."
To implement the President's Decree, the Cabinet of Ministers plans to sanction an Action Plan and establish a Central Commission for Assistance with the Population Census. This commission, led by the Deputy Prime Minister, will oversee the coordination of central and local government bodies, agencies, enterprises, and organizations involved in the census's preparation and execution.
Furthermore, it was emphasized that the census will, for the first time, utilize digital technologies and administrative and geospatial data, in line with relevant UN guidelines and national priorities.
The meeting at the Cabinet of Ministers, reported by APA, also involved discussions on the organizational steps required for the upcoming census and the responsibilities of the involved state institutions. Representatives from pertinent state bodies participated in the meeting, and Prime Minister Asadov was slated to provide a comprehensive briefing on the tasks to be undertaken.
