Calgary: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Canada will provide Ukraine with a "very important" air defense package during his visit to Canada.
According to Deutsche Welle, Zelenskyy arrived in Calgary after attending King Harald V's funeral in Norway, where his travel was delayed due to a drone incursion.
Zelenskyy's visit to Canada is part of a series of international meetings aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defenses ahead of the winter months. "The main focus will be on supporting Ukraine in protecting our skies and preparing for the winter," Zelenskyy shared on social media prior to his departure. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney echoed this sentiment, stating that the visit will concentrate on shared priorities, including enhancing defense, economic, and energy cooperation. Carney emphasized Canada's unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine's defense, recovery, and reconstruction efforts.
The Ukrainian President has also expressed a desire to meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss these matters before the month's end. Since the onset of Russia's invasion in 2022, there has been a marked increase in attacks on Ukraine's fuel and heating infrastructure during the colder months.
On the battlefield, Ukraine launched attacks on a Russian oil refinery in the Yamalo-Nenets region and a seaport in Dagestan. Other critical sites in Russia's war industry were reportedly targeted. In the Voronezh region of Russia, Governor Alexander Gusev reported that one woman was killed by drone debris in Borisoglebsk, and 19 drones were intercepted overnight. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed a total of 448 Ukrainian drones were shot down.
In Ukraine, Russian attacks targeted buildings owned by a major food producer in Dnipro, resulting in at least two deaths. A drone attack in the Odesa region claimed the lives of two Azerbaijani crew members aboard a cargo ship, with two others hospitalized in Chornomorsk. Azerbaijan's foreign ministry confirmed the incident, while Ukraine attributed the drone strike to Russia.
