Carlsen extends lead after winning eighth game of World Chess Championship

Defending champion Magnus Carlsen extended his lead over challenger Ian Nepomniachtchi after winning the eighth game of the World Chess Championship final in Dubai, according to insidethegames.biz.

Carlsen, playing with the white pieces, has a 5-3 advantage in the series after taking victory.

It is the Norwegian’s second win in the last three matches of the final following a run of five straight draws.

Russian Nepomniachtchi resigned after 46 moves to leave Carlsen on the brink of retaining his world title.

Carlsen had claimed victory in the longest game in World Chess Championship history on Friday.
