Baku: This year, the Ramadan calendar coincides with Novruz, which holds a special place and national significance in the centuries-old history of the Azerbaijani people, APA reports. This overlap has prompted the Caucasus Muslims Board to issue a recommendation regarding the alignment of traditional Novruz celebrations with the observance of Ramadan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Council of Qazis of the Caucasus Muslims Board has issued a fatwa on the occasion of the beginning of Ramadan. The fatwa highlights the historical importance of Novruz, stating that during this time, conflicts ceased, and people came together to share joy and hope for the future. In recognition of the divine significance of Ramadan, the Council recommends that Novruz tables set on Tuesdays be adjusted to coincide with iftar hours, allowing the people to embrace the joys and blessings of both Ramadan and Novruz.
The fatwa also notes that the date of the Ramadan holiday will likely fall on March 20, contingent upon the sighting of the crescent moon of the month of Shawwal. This adjustment aims to ensure that both Novruz and Ramadan are observed in harmony, fostering unity and spiritual fulfillment among the Azerbaijani people.
