CEO of BISTP shares measures to further benefit from port’s potential

BAKU: Taleh Ziyadov, the head of Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISTP), spoke with Euronews about the port’s accomplishments and future goals, Trend reports.

According to him, BISTP is the only green port on the Caspian Sea, capable of processing up to 15 million tons of cargo per year, benefits from a prime geographical location in the heart of Central Eurasia, and contributes significantly to the region’s economic development.

‘The port has a demonstrated desire to adapt, grow, and satisfy rising global trade demands. Last year, the total transshipment volume at BISTP topped 7.3 million tons (51 percent growth in three years), cargo handling speed has increased, and there are prospects to boost cargo flow,’ Ziyadov stressed.

The port, located in Alat, has 13 berths, including Ro-Ro, a ferry terminal.

A terminal for fertilizer transit and warehouses capable of storing 60,000 tons of various fertilizers have also been built.

BISCP Executive Director Eugene Seah, in a conversation with Euronews journa
lists, noted that technology development, digitalization, and automation are high on the port’s development agenda.

BISTP is also implementing environmental sustainability measures to reduce its impact on the environment and ecosystem.

The port’s capacity will gradually be expanded to 25 million tons of cargo per year, taking into account modern technologies.
