Baku: One of the key distinguishing features of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) will be high-level political participation, Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture and National Coordinator of WUF13, announced during a speech at the official opening press conference in Baku.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Guliyev highlighted that, for the first time in the history of the World Urban Forum, a leaders' segment will be organized, bringing together heads of state and government. He mentioned that, in collaboration with UN-Habitat, Azerbaijan will introduce a new international initiative called the 'Baku City Award.' This award will recognize outstanding achievements in sustainable urban development, with a focus on housing. Guliyev emphasized that WUF13 aims to leave a significant legacy beyond the forum itself.
In addition to various initiatives and policy outcomes, operational excellence is a crucial element in the successful organization of the World Urban Forum. Guliyev noted that the 'Baku standards' developed by the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company, in collaboration with UN-Habitat, will serve as a foundation for preparing an informative operational guide for countries hosting future World Urban Forums.
