Baku: ‘The Washington meeting held on August 8 creates an opportunity for the South Caucasus to move towards peace,’ said Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), during his speech at the 1st Azerbaijan-U.S. Think Tanks Forum, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shafiyev emphasized the significance of the meeting, stating that the region is surrounded by two conflict hotspots: the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. These conflicts inevitably impact the South Caucasus. The peace agreement initialed in Washington on August 8 offers a pathway for the region to pursue peace amidst these challenges. Shafiyev expressed hope for amendments to Armenia’s constitution, which could pave the way for the signing of the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agreement under suitable conditions.

He further noted that the meeting presents new opportunities for Azerbaijan-U.S. cooperation. While the past three decades have seen a focus on energy sector collaboration, there is potential for partnerships in other sectors as well.
