BAKU: The Head of Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the COP29 Organizing Committee Samir Nuriyev met with the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Simon Stiell, Trend reports.

According to the information, Samir Nuriyev briefed on the process of preparation for COP29, conducted under the leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, informed that the initiatives of Azerbaijan were recently publicized for the general public. The COP29 president sent a detailed letter to all parties to the Framework Convention outlining plans and expectations in connection with this important event.

The head of the Presidential Administration brought to attention that the COP29 chairmanship is exploring the position of all states and other stakeholders, participating in important international meetings, working actively, and emphasizing that Azerbaijan will make every effort to reach a consensus between developed and develo
ping countries on the amount of new climate finance.

Samir Nuriyev also talked of upcoming events in Azerbaijan within the COP29 preparation process, conditions to be created for delegations and other participants of the conference, support for civil society participation in COP29, and work carried out in the field of communication.

Simon Stiell expressed satisfaction with the work carried out by Azerbaijan for the success of COP29, the inclusion of the issue of support for small island states in Azerbaijan’s agenda, and stated that the UN is ready to provide Azerbaijan with all possible assistance in the organization of COP29.
