Baku: “If we look at the history of the EU, we will see that we have always played a positive role in building connections,” stated former President of the European Council Charles Michel during a panel discussion at the 12th Global Baku Forum. Michel made these remarks in response to the question, “Is it possible to admit new members to the EU?” at the session titled “Geopolitical Changes: Responsible Partnership versus Rivalry.”
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Michel emphasized the necessity for the European Union to establish more connections and pursue regional initiatives. He stated, “We must defend our interests in our policies. Some projects can be implemented with new partners. We should not show indifference to the rest of the world. We should strive to develop connections.” Michel’s comments reflect a vision of the EU that is open to partnerships and regional collaboration, suggesting a proactive approach to international relations.
