Chief of Azerbaijan’s Intellectual Property Agency Highlights Key Developments at WIPO Event

Geneva: The 68th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) commenced on July 7 in Geneva, Switzerland. Kamran Imanov, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan's Intellectual Property Agency, contributed to the session through an online address.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Kamran Imanov extended his congratulations to Daren Tang on his re-election as the WIPO Director General. He elaborated on the advancements in intellectual property within Azerbaijan, aligning them with the Socioeconomic Development Strategy, the Digital Development Concept, and the Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2025-2028. He emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of intellectual property and its pivotal role in the country's innovation ecosystem, underscoring the institutional reforms introduced by the President of Azerbaijan.

Imanov highlighted the importance of understanding intellectual property not merely as exclusive rights but as complex entities with mathematical, philosophical, and legal dimensions. He detailed the collaborative interdisciplinary research undertaken with IP departments at leading universities, which is integral to Azerbaijan's IP policy. The Agency's work has also been recognized by WIPO, being included among the 15 designated IP offices in the WIPO Pathfinders Report.

He further mentioned the operational digital platforms such as the P?NAH industrial property platform, which offers 24/7 online registration and features like 3D-format and "Open Registries" supported by mobile platforms. A digital copyright platform is also in place, along with an AI bot for consultation and AI solutions for automating patent processes, developed with the Eurasian Patent Office.

Imanov expressed confidence that the exchange of experiences within WIPO will enhance national intellectual property systems and elevate the standard of digital services provided.
