A commemorative event was held in the assembly hall of the Sport-health club of the Ministry of Emergency Situations on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the January 20 tragedy. The event was attended by the head of the club, Colonel Fuzuli Musayev, the head of the MES Academy, Major General Baba Salayev, MP Vugar Iskandarov.

First, the memory of the martyrs of January 20 was commemorated with a minute of silence and the National anthem was played.

Then a documentary about the bloody January events was shown.

Then, speaking at the event, head of the Sport-health club of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Colonel Fuzuli Musayev looked at the history of the events of January 20, 1990. He noted that the bloody January 20 tragedy, which will never be erased from the memory of our people, also had a decisive impact on the formation of Azerbaijan’s national identity and was a turning point in the restoration of state independence.

F.Musayev noted that this tragedy was first given a legal and political assessment on the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev and the truth about the tragedy was exposed.

The decent follower of Heydar Aliyev’s political course, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev took important steps to perpetuate the memory of our sons and daughters who were martyred in January 1990, glorify their names and strengthen the social protection of their families and children. This issue is always in the focus of the head of state.

Then, speaking at the commemorative event, head of the Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Major General Baba Salayev, MP Vugar Iskandarov, lawyer of the Sport-health club Hamdiyya Mammadov stressed that the events of January 20 were written in golden letters in the history of our people’s struggle for freedom and the heroic chronicle of our martyrs will never be forgotten.
