Baku: The number of people in Azerbaijan who need a heart transplant is high, stated Chairman of the Milli Majlis Healthcare Committee, Ahliman Amiraslanov, during a roundtable discussion titled 'The first heart transplant in the Caucasus: a historic achievement of Azerbaijan's healthcare and future prospects.'
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Amiraslanov emphasized that the primary challenge in addressing this issue is finding suitable donors. Since the first heart transplant was conducted in Azerbaijan, there has been a notable increase in individuals expressing willingness to become heart donors. He acknowledged that while legislative measures have been adopted, implementation has been challenging. Nonetheless, due to the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of Health, transplantation procedures have been successfully conducted. A Coordination Center has also been established to facilitate these efforts. Amiraslanov stressed the importance of societal involvement in promoting donor participation, highlighting that donors are pivotal to the success of transplantation efforts.
