Kahramanmaras: The construction of the 'Azerbaijan Quarter', built by the State Housing Construction Agency of Azerbaijan in Kahramanmaras, Trkiye, has been completed, APA's correspondent dispatched to Kahramanmaras reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Farman Gurbanli, Chief of Staff of MIDA, announced the completion of Blocks 7, 8, 11, and 12 under the master plan of the 'Azerbaijan Quarter'. The quarter spans 27.6 hectares and comprises 26 residential buildings across the four blocks, totaling 456 apartments and 328 non-residential units.
Gurbanli emphasized the upcoming completion of a cultural center within the quarter, planned to be finished in a year. The project encompasses residential buildings, a primary school, a kindergarten, and a cultural center. A total of 68 residential buildings with 1,194 apartments have been constructed. Additionally, 1,595 non-residential facilities have been established to provide jobs for future residents.
In the aftermath of the February 2023 earthquake in Trkiye, Azerbaijan, under the directive of President Ilham Aliyev, initiated search and rescue operations, provided humanitarian aid, and constructed a new residential quarter in Kahramanmaras. The 'Azerbaijan Quarter' project, supported by the Turkish government, demonstrates the strong ties between Azerbaijan and Trkiye. Financial assistance was allocated by Azerbaijan to support Trkiye's recovery and reconstruction efforts.
The project saw the foundation of the Heydar Aliyev Primary School and kindergarten laid during the 'TEKNOFEST' festival in April 2023. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan. On September 25, 2023, a cooperation agreement for the construction of residential buildings, a primary school, a kindergarten, and a cultural center was signed between the governments of Azerbaijan and Trkiye.
The newly built Heydar Aliyev Primary School and kindergarten were inaugurated on September 11, 2024, attended by delegations from both countries. The school features 20 primary school classrooms and three kindergarten classrooms, along with workshops for various educational activities.
The official opening of the Azerbaijan Quarter took place on June 19, 2025, attended by Presidents Aliyev and Erdogan. Keys to several apartments were handed over to their owners during the ceremony, and the leaders toured the facilities. Additional apartment deliveries are scheduled for February 6.
