Coordinates of 740 Muslim Cemeteries in Western Azerbaijan Identified, Community Reports

Baku: The coordinates of 740 Muslim cemeteries in Western Azerbaijan have been identified, as stated by Aziz Alakbarli, Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community, during his speech at a joint event of the Caucasus Muslim Board and the Western Azerbaijan Community.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Alakbarli highlighted the disturbing trend of Muslim cemeteries being erased from existence. He pointed out instances where Armenian cemeteries have been established atop these sites, calling it a horrifying fact that requires international attention. He urged for collective action with the Caucasus Muslim Board to address this issue.

Furthermore, Alakbarli expressed concern over the survival of only the remains of the Tepebashi Mosque in Yerevan, while many other mosques have been entirely obliterated. Over 500 mosques have been identified across 17 districts, with around 300 mosques having vanished without a trace. He emphasized the importance of protecting Muslim religious monuments and raised concerns about cemeteries being destroyed, roads being constructed over them, and industrial facilities being built on their sites. Instances of Armenian cemeteries replacing Azerbaijani ones were also noted. The Western Azerbaijan Community is prepared to collaborate with the Caucasus Muslims Office to uncover the truths surrounding the religious and cultural heritage in these areas. Plans for joint conferences and events to address these issues are underway.
