Coordination Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network Held in Arusha

Arusha:A coordination meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN) took place in Arusha, Tanzania, alongside the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The meeting was presided over by Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis and Chair of the NAM PN.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the importance of holding coordination meetings in parallel with IPU Assemblies, as these are vital for collective action and optimizing the use of the platform. She noted that these meetings foster constructive dialogue among member parliaments, thereby enhancing cooperation.

Gafarova also stated that the Parliamentary Network is expanding its scope and bolstering its international presence. Promoting the organization's role and activities is a priority for her, which she actively pursues during foreign visits, bilateral meetings, and international conferences. She provided insights into the steps taken to achieve these goals.

Moreover, Gafarova emphasized the priority of developing institutional dialogue and strengthening cooperation with other organizations. The NAM PN currently holds observer status with six organizations, while eight organizations have observer status with the Network. Memorandums of understanding with partner organizations further the Network's participation in international cooperation.

Since the Network's founding in Madrid in November 2021, five conferences have been organized in Baku, Manama, Geneva, Tashkent, and Istanbul from 2022 to 2026. Each conference has played a significant role in the Network's institutional development.
