COP29 Initiative to Transform Middle Corridor into Eco-Friendly Transport Route

BAKU—At the upcoming COP29 conference in Baku, Global DTC Pte Ltd is set to introduce a proposal aimed at transforming the Middle Corridor into a sustainable “green” transport route. This initiative was outlined by Zhanar Bagasharova, Head of Program Development at DTC, during the “International Transport Corridors in the Black and Caspian Seas” session at the Black Sea-Caspian Freight Forum 2024.

According to Trend News Agency, Bagasharova detailed the extensive preparations behind the initiative, including technical integrations and collaborations across several countries. “We have successfully implemented technical integration by adding cargo tracking capabilities on our platform in collaboration with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), ADY (Azerbaijan Railway), and GR (Georgian Railway). A key achievement was moving Kazakhstan out of the ‘grey zone’ by enhancing border process transparency between Kazakhstan and China, facilitated by the launch of the DTC Tez Customs – digital customs solution,” she stated.

The initiative focuses on reducing the carbon footprint of the Middle Corridor, which spans several key Eurasian nations, including Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, and extends to Turkey and Europe. “We cooperate closely with Turkey and Europe. DTC plans to present an initiative at COP29 in Baku in November to demonstrate the Middle Corridor’s use as a ‘green road’ by assessing its impact on carbon emissions and promoting carbon footprint reduction initiatives,” Bagasharova added.

This proposal represents a significant step towards aligning major transport routes with global environmental objectives, particularly in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices across international logistics networks.
