COP29 Organizing Committee holds fifth meeting, issues instructions


On July 8, the Organizing Committee of 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held its fifth meeting, APA reports.

Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Samir Nuriyev noted that the preparation process for COP29 is under the constant supervision of President Ilham Aliyev.

Samir Nuriyev stated that the final text of the “Host Country” Agreement to be signed between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change will be ready soon, taking into account the opinions of relevant state bodies.

Speaking about Azerbaijan’s priorities for COP29, Samir Nuriyev mentioned that an initial list of 14 initiatives has been prepared based on proposals from various state institutions and through intensive discussions with the UN a
nd other international organizations.

Samir Nuriyev also noted that the thematic days of COP29 have already been allocated in coordination with the UN.

Touching on Azerbaijan’s openness to cooperation not only with states but also with non-governmental organizations and think tanks in the fight against climate change, Samir Nuriyev emphasized that efforts are nearly finalized for the creation of the COP29 International Advisory Committee, composed of several prominent foreign individuals.

At the end of the meeting, instructions were given regarding the implementation of the COP29 Action Plan and other relevant issues.
