Deliveries of cell phones reduced by about half

In the first two quarters of this year the number of cell phones imported to Azerbaijan amounted to 467.700 which is down by 42.7% from the same period of the last year.

Legal deliveries of smartphones reduced from all major supplier countries, the State Customs Committee said. In January-June this year, cell phone imports from Vietnam declined from 246,800 (first half of 2021) to 144,900 units. China purchased 270,300 cell phones which is down 41.5% from the first half of the last year. 51.900 cell phones were supplied from India to Azerbaijan during this period (-19%).

According to the State Statistics Committee, the declared value of mobile telecommunication means for the first quarter of this year amounted to $92.6 million which is down by 26% from the last year. Chinese-made phones were declared at an average price of $197.6 ($145.9 for January-June 2021), Vietnam – $187.1 ($155) and India – $220.9 ($200.8) per unit.

Note that in 2021, Azerbaijan imported 1 million 508.800 cell phones (+0.3%) with a total declared value of $235.7 million.
