Baku: Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, announced that approximately 100,000 individuals are currently residing in the region of Karabakh, even as landmines continue to pose a significant threat to safety and reconstruction efforts.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mammadov shared this update on social media platform X, highlighting the return of over 40,000 former internally displaced persons to the area. He detailed that over 45 settlements have been successfully rebuilt and restored, facilitating the resumption of normal life, including work and education, for the population.

Mammadov emphasized the dual nature of the situation, describing the substantial progress achieved over the past six years alongside the persistent challenges. The presence of landmines remains a formidable barrier, with recent reports of a civilian injury due to a mine incident underscoring the ongoing risk.

Despite these hurdles, Mammadov reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to overcoming these challenges. The government aims to ensure the safe and dignified return of displaced communities, continuing efforts to clear landmines and further the reconstruction process in Karabakh.
