‘Design Days’ Practical Sessions Conclude Under Azerbaijan Urban Campaign

Baku: The 'Design Days' practical sessions, held under the Azerbaijan Urban Campaign (AUC2026) in preparation for the Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), have concluded. In January, more than 60 architecture students and young urban professionals took part in the sessions. During sessions, participants carried out field research, evaluated the social, ecological, and functional potential of existing urban settlements, and proposed conceptual approaches.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, participants conducted field research focusing on the potential of rooftop spaces in Baku's historic city centre as a new resource for sustainable urban development. Conceptual ideas were developed with attention to factors such as microclimate, natural ventilation, and thermal comfort. Simultaneously, the social, ecological, and functional potential of waterfront spaces along the Baku Boulevard was analyzed, and approaches were developed to support the transformation of the promenade into a more active and functional recreational area.

In another session, participants explored ways to connect existing parks and underutilized open spaces into an integrated 'green corridor' system, prioritizing ecological sustainability, social inclusivity, and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. As part of the project, a further session focused on reimagining everyday urban spaces from the perspective of children. Key discussions in this session centered on strategies to make the urban environment safer, more inclusive, and of higher quality for children's public spaces.
