Baku: 'The Azerbaijani language is not only a means of communication, but a model of national thinking,' said Vusala Mahirghizi, Director General of APA Media Group and Chair of the Language Commission of the Azerbaijan Press Council, at the conference titled 'The Language of the Media in the Context of Scientific Discussion,' APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Vusala Mahirghizi noted that President Ilham Aliyev, in his speeches and interviews on the protection of the Azerbaijani language, has also described the language as an important attribute of national identity.
She emphasized the need for continuous cooperation between media and linguists to preserve the language. The National Academy of Sciences has prepared orthographic, orthoepic, lexical, and terminological dictionaries of the Azerbaijani language. Mahirghizi stressed the importance of digitizing these dictionaries and integrating them into artificial intelligence tools for media and public accessibility. She highlighted the significance of digitizing the orthoepic dictionary as a valuable resource for television presenters and language learners, addressing the issue of incorrect word pronunciations on television and social media.
The media executive also mentioned the use of online tools for checking the correct spelling of Azerbaijani words. These tools, created in the past, need updates to incorporate new linguistic rules. Mahirghizi expressed her belief that the Institute of Linguistics could update or recreate these electronic tools to help eliminate language mistakes in the media and public usage.
