EBRD Allocates €515 Million to Tajikistan’s Development Projects


DUSHANBE—The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has committed a significant €515 million to its ongoing projects in Tajikistan, as of July 31, 2024, aiming to bolster the nation’s infrastructure and economic development.



According to Trend News Agency, the EBRD’s substantial investment supports 79 active projects in the country. Notably, a vast majority of these funds, 89 percent or €458 million, have been dedicated to sustainable infrastructure projects. Additionally, 8 percent or €40 million of the portfolio has been allocated to financial institutions, with the remaining 3 percent, amounting to €17 million, directed towards industry, commerce, and agriculture sectors.



Since the EBRD began operations in Tajikistan, the bank has made cumulative investments totaling €987 million across 176 projects. Of this portfolio, 12 percent is invested in the private sector, reflecting the bank’s strategy to support private and entrepreneurial initiatives alongside public infrastructure developments.



The investment trajectory in recent years has seen significant allocations, with €131 million invested in 2020, and consistent contributions in subsequent years, including €56 million in 2021 and €21 million annually in 2022 and 2023. These investments underscore the EBRD’s ongoing commitment to Tajikistan’s long-term economic stability and growth through various developmental projects.
