According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the match ended in a 1:1 draw after regular and extra time. Emam Ashour provided an early lead for Egypt by scoring in the 13th minute. However, the game saw a twist when Mohamed Hani inadvertently scored an own goal in the 55th minute, leveling the score for Australia. As the match progressed to penalties, the Egyptian squad demonstrated composure and precision, successfully converting all four of their penalty attempts, whereas Australia managed only two.
The win has propelled Egypt to a second-place finish in Group G, setting up their next match in the Round of 16 against the winner of the Argentina versus Cape Verde match, scheduled for the night of July 4, Moscow time.
