Baku: The South Caucasus region holds significant importance for Iran, as stated by Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a briefing today, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Baghaei highlighted the importance of the Iranian defense minister's visit to Baku and the accompanying security consultations. He stated, "This region is very important for the Islamic Republic of Iran. We view peace and stability there as a form of our own peace and stability. This visit is a continuation of the foreign minister Araghchi's visit to Baku some time ago."

Baghaei outlined that during the defense minister's visit, discussions on bilateral cooperation in defense and security took place. He expressed Iran's belief in the necessity of such visits and consultations to preserve and strengthen trust and mutual understanding among the countries of the region. The talks with Azerbaijani officials covered a wide range of topics of common interest in security and defense, which Baghaei believes will enhance trust between the two nations.

Furthermore, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson addressed the visit of the U.S. Vice President to Armenia and Azerbaijan, reiterating Tehran's clear stance on the South Caucasus. Baghaei stressed Iran's consistent support for strengthening regional relations and communication routes, while firmly opposing any initiative that could harm the region's geographical or geopolitical borders.

Baghaei concluded by emphasizing that such initiatives "do not serve regional security interests," and expressed hope that neighboring countries will consider Iran's concerns and views when making decisions.
