Ethiopian Prime Minister Visits Sangachal Oil Terminal as Part of Azerbaijan Tour

Baku: As part of his official visit to Azerbaijan, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali visited the Sangachal oil terminal on Friday.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the tour of the terminal began at the Caspian Energy Center, a facility recognized for its unique status in the Caspian region. The guests were informed that the center reflects the history of Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry and promotes the country's role in the global oil and gas sector. The Caspian Energy Centre was inaugurated in 2005, coinciding with the opening of the Azerbaijani section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main oil export pipeline.

The Ethiopian delegation learned about significant milestones in Azerbaijan's oil history, including the world's first mechanically-drilled oil wells at Bibiheybat in 1846. After Azerbaijan regained independence, a crucial production sharing agreement, known as the Contract of the Century, was signed under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev. The agreement spurred rapid development, establishing Azerbaijan as a regional energy hub.

The visitors also examined samples of oil produced from various fields. A video presentation showcased Azerbaijan's oil history and the Southern Gas Corridor. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali received keepsakes during the visit.

During the tour, the Ethiopian delegation received detailed information about the technological processes at the Sangachal Terminal. They were informed about the terminal's critical role in Azerbaijan's oil and gas industry, where crude oil and gas from the Caspian Sea are processed and exported, primarily through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and the Southern Caucasus pipelines.
