Brussels: The storage levels of underground gas reservoirs in the European Union countries have reached approximately 70%.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this information comes from the European Gas Infrastructure Operators Association (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE), which reports that the current storage level is approximately 69.96%. This figure is 7.8 percentage points lower than the average indicator of the last five years.

Currently, the total volume of gas in the EU countries’ reservoirs exceeds 76.5 billion cubic meters. Under the requirements of the European Commission, EU countries must ensure that their gas reservoirs are filled up to 90% by November 1 each year. This measure is intended to increase reserves for the winter period in case of supply disruptions or anomalously cold weather conditions.

Since December 31, 2020, the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has been operational, providing an additional source of gas supply to the region.
