Brussels: The level of filling of underground gas storage facilities in the European Union countries has surpassed 80%, with the current volume standing at an impressive 88.4 billion cubic meters, as reported by APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the European Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE) highlighted that the filling level of these storage facilities is approximately 80.34%. This figure is noticeably lower than the corresponding period last year, which recorded a 93.3% filling level. Furthermore, it is 6.76 percentage points below the average indicator of the last five years.

The European Commission mandates that EU countries must ensure their gas storage facilities reach 90% capacity by November 1 each year. This requirement aims to increase reserves as a safeguard against potential supply disruptions or abnormally cold weather conditions during the winter months.

Additionally, it is noteworthy that Azerbaijani gas transportation to Europe via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) commenced on December 31, 2020.
